About
It all started when…
Kenny’s K9 started in 2017 in MacGregor Manitoba. Kennedy has always dreamed of owning her own salon since she started her career in Edmonton in 2015. Kennedy immediately started volunteering for the local humane society when she decided the K9 field was her future career. She walked dogs and supervised play times. She also worked at many of their fundraising events. She volunteered for them for 10 months until she left for Thailand to volunteer in a dog rescue program. For 30 days she went out on missions to find street dogs that were injured or severely malnutritioned. She would bring them back to a shelter to try and save them. She would take them to a vet for diagnosis, feed and water them, administer meds, bath them, cuddle/play with them and learned many techniques for sanitizing stall, beds and the boarding facility. She soon realized when she couldn't save them all, that the veterinary field was not for her.
When she returned she went back to volunteering at the shelter and at her old job. It wasn't long after she realized her passion for the K-9 breed had deepened and it was where her heart was. She started walking dogs for clients and house sitting their pets. She then applied to work at a local dog daycare and boarding facility. Her dream job! She have never fell in love so fast with something. She worked 7 days a week, all day and was loving it. She was their primary care giver, maintained their kennels, exercised them, fed and watered them, and did some basic grooming. One day the daycare owner showed her an add for a local grooming shop, as she knew that was where she really wanted to be. She got the job and started working full time 5 days a week apprenticing at the what she like’s to call the "Prada" of dog grooming shop. She was learning all the techniques and skills required from the very best in Edmonton. Her educators were K-9 Master stylers and were known as the top groomers in the K-9 competition world, so she knew she was being shown the proper techniques. She started working evenings at another local day care and boarding facility, where she was trained in Pac Leadership. She then taught 6 week classes teaching pack leadership and basic demand skills.
When Kennedy returned home she dedicated herself to opening her MacGregor location as a dog groomer as well as a pet sitter. She never expected it to take off like it did! Within 6 short months she went down to part time at her full time business to work more at her salon and within that same year of opening her part time business in MacGregor she opened up a second salon in Portage La prairie to offer her grooming services, daycare and training. She has since thrived in Portage employing 6 people, offering many new services including trick and animal classes, created a adorable boutique shop, expanded her portage location in 2019, has since created an amazing clientele and fun daycare facility that includes an average of 15 dogs a day!
Kenny’s K9 has since become a second family to so many people and their pets. We hope when you visit our facility that you feel the same way! Thanks for stopping in and checking us out! We can’t wait to meet you and your faithful friend.
Love, Kenny’s K9
