7 Fun Ways to Celebrate the Holidays With Your Pet!
Pets are a part of the family. No question! Here are seven things you can do with your dog that will bring you closer together this holiday season.
1. Bake Homemade Dog Treats!
There is something to be said about Christmas baking. This is true for your dog as well! We bake for our neighbours, friends, family – might as well throw in some homemade dog treats for our four-legged friends! You know it will be appreciated. If you cannot find a good recipe, you can always pick up some of our homemade treats at the shop. The only thing better than baking homemade treats is eating them!
2. Learn A New Trick!
When was the last time you taught your dog a trick? This might be the perfect opportunity to bond with your pet! One of our daycare dogs learned something new and I thought it would be good inspiration to pass along to you! Many dogs know “shake a paw”, right? Have you tried teaching your dog to shake “the other one”? A simple, but fun idea! Maybe you can work on a new trick this season and you can share your success with us on Instagram or Facebook! Make sure to tag us!
3. Make A Pawprint Ornament!
This is an arts and craft project that your dog can literally help you with! There are so many recipes online on how to make a pawprint and we'd love for you to share your work with us! It's a perfect gift for a fellow dog lover as well. Give it a try!
4. Snuggle and Watch a Christmas Movie!
Do you have a favourite movie you love to watch in December? For us, it's probably Home Alone and The Grinch. We will definitely be snuggled up with our dogs this Christmas as we watch Kevin try to shave for the first time and see the Grinch's heart grow three times the size! (Should I have said spoiler alert...?)
5. Look at the Lights!
Dogs love going for walks! Breaking news, right? Well, this is the perfect time to head out and look at the hard work our neighbours have put into their decorations! Go for an extended walk, look around, and smile. It'll be good for both you and your pooch! (What do you suppose they're thinking when they see all the reindeer lit up?)
6. Photoshoot / Christmas Card!
This is one of my favourite things! Have you thought about doing a photoshoot with your dog? Some of our clients do this every year and we love receiving those cards! I'm sure your friends and family would, too! In the new year, we hope there will be more sessions available where we can offer photoshoots, but in the meantime, your phone takes pretty good photos! Even if you can't get a physical card out, a digital card means so much! (I'm not sure I've said it enough but we love receiving these!!)
7. Quality Time Together
Finally, it all comes down to quality time together. We feed our dogs, we keep them hydrated, we keep them safe, and we make sure they are taken care of. However, when was the last time you dedicated an entire day to your dog? What a wonderful gift that would be! What is your dog's favourite thing to do? Join them! Give them pets and scratches! 2020 has been a tough year for us and I couldn't imagine what we would do without our dogs. They do wonders for our mental health!
This holiday season, let's show our dogs just how much we love and cherish them. They do that for us all year-round!
