New Year's Resolution's Results: PART ONE!
2020 was a difficult year for many local businesses and organizations due to the pandemic. For 2021, we decided to do what we could to help out.
Each month, we have pledged to hold a nail trimming clinic where every dollar raised will go to a local cause. As of the end of the April, we have kept our new year’s resolution going! Here’s a look at Part One of our campaign so far.
January - Mood Disorders Association of Manitoba
We didn’t know what to expect when we kicked off this program in January, but my goodness, you came up big in helping us out. We raised $409.65 for the Portage la Prairie chapter of the MDAM which was so helpful. They provide support, education and advocacy for those living with mental health illnesses which is something we’re also very passionate about. This was such a busy evening that we needed some extra help and Kalie Mile and Jenna Braun both volunteered their time to help out. We ended up going for two hours that day and it was wonderful.
February – Prairie Pregnancy Support Centre
The Prairie Pregnancy Support Centre was the group we chose for February and we were very happy with the turnout. We were able to present them with a donation of $223 thanks to everyone who showed up. The PPSC is big on making sure that if someone is dealing with an unplanned pregnancy, they can get the support they need. They want to provide compassionate care during a tough time and they take confidentiality very seriously. They do such great work for the community and we wanted to help them out.
March – Herman Prior Activity Centre
This is a gem of a facility in Portage la Prairie that does so much good work for the community. We had 20+ dogs who got their nails done on this night! We raised $302.25 for the group who is currently doing a lot of fundraising. Their rent is going up and the number of memberships has gone down during the pandemic and they can use your help. We know they have a lot of great programs for seniors in the community but they truly have programs for everyone. We were proud to do what we could to help.
April – Portage Animal Welfare Society
We love the Portage Animal Welfare Society so much some of us have started volunteering with them! PAWS does so much to help stray cats and dogs in the community and we wanted to do our part.
We had a special donation in honour of Megan, who is no longer with us. It was a beautiful way for the family to celebrate her birthday. All in all, $459 was brought in.
We will continue this initiative throughout all of 2021. Our next event takes place in May, so stay tuned to find out who we’ve selected and we hope you’ll join in to donate! Thank you to everyone who has helped out so far. It has really warmed our hearts.
